HEEYYYYYY everybody!! Long time no see!! So I'm pretty embarrassed about not posting since February...I even missed my bloggiversary. :-( I guess this "school" thing is pretty distracting! But here I am, and I've done my nails! Everything is as it should be!

Before I show you my swatch, I just want to link to my destash sale! I realized that I was running out of room in my second Helmer, so I went through my whole collection and culled about 10% of it. (There's some non-nail stuff too.) You can find everything here for super cheap! Enjoy!

OK, on to the swatch! I caved and bought four polishes from the recent ILNP summer collection. My polish purchasing is much slower these days than it used to be, but I couldn't resist these! Here I have Ruby Sky, which is an indigo jelly with purple/red/gold shifting glass flecks! Ooof, just look at it...

ILNP Ruby Sky. Three coats with Out the Door topcoat.

Isn't it delightfully squishy and mysterious? I did need three coats to even out the color, but the formula was great. Love it.

Ruby Sky is available here for $10 (12 ml). I promise to post again soon! I have a lot of untrieds to go through!

Hi gang! How are you doing? We both had a snow day today, although the storm turned out to be much less terrible than expected. Overall, this winter has been so much nicer than last year here in Boston! (That was by far the worst winter I've ever experienced!!)

Today I want to show you the polish I wore last week. Illamasqua Raindrops is, I believe, pretty famous in polish land. I grabbed it when they were having a sale recently (I never would have paid full price, way too expensive!). It's a pale blue-toned grey crelly with white glass flecks. Despite the name, it reminds me more of snow than rain!

Illamasqua Raindrops. Three coats with Out the Door topcoat.

The formula was on the runny, sheer side. I needed three coats for opacity. I also ended up with flooded cuticles, so apply carefully! I have to say that this polish had some pretty great wear time--normally I get chips within a day or two, but this stuff kept plugging along all week with just some tipwear! I don't know if that's typical of Illamasqua's formula, but I like it!

You can get Raindrops at Illamasqua.com (they ship to the US).

Have a great week!

Long time no talk!! Happy New Year everyone! One of my New Year's resolutions was to make sure to have my nails done for every class session this semester. Last semester I hardly did my nails at all, and I felt very naked. :-P This time around I want to have better time management in general (doesn't everyone say that??) and part of that means doing my nails and BLOGGING! This afternoon is my first class, so here I am with today's mani (and very short nails). Hope you like it!

This is Starrily Poisoned Apple. It's a gorgeous, pigmented dark red (almost cranberry) linear holo with some added holo glitter. So sexy and vampy! I don't often wear red polish, but this type of cool-toned shade is right up my alley.

I had no complaints at all about the formula. The brush is fairly wide, so make sure to wipe it off well before polishing or you'll get messy cuticles. And since this is a red, it can be a pain to clean up. Luckily the polish isn't runny at all.

Right now the Starrily shop is closed, but keep an eye out for this one!
Let's ignore the fact that I haven't posted anything in two months, shall we? (In fact, I've barely even done my nails at all in that time, which is super depressing!) I'm here with awesome news today, which is that ALIQUID Lacquer is officially two years old. :-D

Can you believe that?? I had never expected that I would ending up owning a business, much less keep it up this long, but here we are! I can't express how grateful I am to everyone who has purchased from me, swatched for me and otherwise supported this little endeavor.

Oh, did I mention I'm about to turn 30 too?? That's even crazier! I was just getting used to thinking of myself as a twenty-something!

I'm going to have sales going in the shop every day until Cyber Monday--today you can get 30% off the When in Rome collection, so go check it out!

I also released a new polish for the occasion. It's called Old Dog, New Tricks, and I'm pretty fond of it:
Oh man, I'm such a terrible blogger. I've barely even done my own nails this month. It's been a combination of starting grad school, getting a HUGE response to my fall collection (which was awesome, but having to pour, pack and ship over 60 orders was a little scary!), and then getting stomach flu last weekend. Fun times!

I did do some fun Greece-inspired nail art that's featured today over at Polish Those Nails, so please go take a look! It was so nice for Marisa to ask me!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13764944048635416065noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107429906695954181.post-84711410977768637942015-09-08T09:15:00.001-04:002015-09-08T09:15:24.408-04:00Swatch: Zoya CeciliaThe product in this post was purchased by me.
Hi gang! I wanted to quickly show you the polish I wore on my first day of classes last week! This is Zoya Cecilia, a bright turquoise creme. It's from the latest summer collection, but I think it works great for early fall as well!

Zoya Cecilia. Two coats with Out the Door topcoat.

The formula was unfortunately a bit thick and sticky. (That might have been partly due to the high temperature/humidity in my office.) So make sure not to overload your brush. On the bright side, it was nearly a one-coater.

I'm going to try to do some nail art for class this week. Gotta make a good impression!

Hi folks! Today was my first day of classes...very weird to be back in a classroom again, especially as the topics are completely new to me!

I finally have my favorite nail art from August to share with you. Lots of summery manis this month! Please make sure to visit the original artists' posts and leave a nice comment!
These are some absolutely immaculate stamping decals! Love the abstract floral pattern. This mani also makes me appreciate how well the Zoya Island Fun collection goes together!
Happy September everyone! Of course I have to start the month with my top five lemmings from last month! This time I have some "weird" colors on the list--they always seem to come out more in the fall, which is fine by me! Make sure to visit the original bloggers' posts for more info.

Happy Monday everyone! It's the last day of August, but summer is definitely hanging on here--it's over 90 degrees today. Yuck!

Today I have a swatch from one of my favorite indie brands, Indigo Bananas. Last year she released a bunch of polishes with beautiful color-shifting flakies, and this was my top lemming from the collection. Acid Ocean is a dark teal jelly with green-blue-purple shifting flakies, plus what looks like some Fantasy Fire-type shimmer! So squishy and ethereal!

Indigo Bananas Acid Ocean. Three coats with Out the Door topcoat.

The formula was on the runny side for a jelly, so I needed three coats to build up the color. Otherwise I had no problems with it! The flakies are the classic type that lie perfectly flat.

Yet another gorgeous IB polish! It's available here for $12 for 15 ml, or $7.25 for 8 ml!
The product in this post was given to me as a gift. All opinions are my own.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13764944048635416065noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107429906695954181.post-68107314452774097722015-08-24T15:12:00.001-04:002015-08-24T15:12:11.012-04:00Today's mani: Watercolor stampingHi kids! Today I tried out a new nail art technique that I just discovered--it gives your mani a watercolor look using a stamper! I saw the tutorial at Chit Chat Nails, so go check out her post for the details!

I started with a white base and added the watercolor with ILNP A Twist of Lemon, ILNP Sniffany, Essie Vibrant Vibes, Essie First Timer and Essie Chillato. I did three applications on each nail for more depth. It's a very peaceful blend of colors!

Afterwards I decided to do a subtle accent nail by stamping on a flower design from MoYou Pro 08 using Bundle Monster Angelic White. I'm getting a lot of zen from this mani!

Have a great week!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13764944048635416065noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107429906695954181.post-313413561077739722015-08-16T13:00:00.000-04:002015-08-16T13:00:10.080-04:00Our experience with Blue ApronHey gang! Happy Sunday! This weekend was sales-tax-free weekend here in MA, so we celebrated by walking around a mall near our new place that we'd never been to before. I ended up getting some new clothes for school. I had never heard of tax-free weekends before I moved to the East Coast, but I think it's a nice idea!

So this past week we got a free trial of Blue Apron from my parents, who have been using the service for a while. Never heard of Blue Apron? Well, if you cook just for one or two people, you've probably come across this problem before: you find a new recipe you want to try, but it requires some obscure ingredient that you can only buy in large amounts, so you end up with way too much, and it eventually goes bad and you have to throw it out.

Blue Apron gets around that problem by sending you three recipes per week, along with the exact quantity of ingredients that you'll need. And it sends you ALL the ingredients; you only have to supply cooking oil, salt and pepper. They even sent me a pat of butter for one recipe! You can choose between a two-person and a family plan, and let them know your dietary restrictions.

The ingredients come in a refrigerated box via express shipping, so everything was in good shape, including the meat. The produce was all beautiful and perfectly ripe, and it looks like they try to get their products from small, local farms.

Let's check out the meals we got! (Sorry for the lame phone pics.)

Our first night I made North-African style beef meatballs with a squash salad and garlic toast. The meatballs were strongly seasoned and tasty, and made a good contrast with the raw squash, but the inclusion of lemon and mint in both components linked them together nicely. We found the meatballs to be a little too salty, but that was probably my fault, since I was adding seasoning along the way.

Day two was a Thai-style ginger and basil stir-fry with chicken thighs, eggplant and peppers, on top of coconut rice. This was deeeeelicious, sweet and gingery and not too spicy for me. But the star was that coconut rice...I could eat a pound of that stuff.

On day three we had ratatouille over parmesan polenta with cheesy garlic toast. The ratatouille had eggplant, tomato, bell pepper, zucchini and onion and was amazingly simple yet tasty. And polenta is another thing I could eat all day every day. I actually got quite a bit of leftovers from this one!

As far as the cooking goes, the recipes were all very easy; I think the hardest thing I had to do was make rice. Basically, if you know how to saute, you will do fine. Nothing took more than an hour to make.

The major downside to Blue Apron is the price: $60 per week for the two-person plan, or $10 per serving. (Note: you can pick and choose which weeks you receive recipes, so it's not every single week unless you want.) While I think that price point is totally reasonable for what you get, it's a bit beyond our budget at this point. But I'll definitely be keeping Blue Apron on our radar for later on--I think it's a great way to try a variety of food without wasting any produce!

What do you think--would you try this service?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13764944048635416065noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1107429906695954181.post-75084522603300542202015-08-11T15:27:00.001-04:002015-08-11T15:27:48.657-04:00Swatch: F.U.N Lacquer Reunion (H)The product in this post was purchased by me.
Hi gang! Sorry for the radio silence--we took a little trip to visit my in-laws. We ate a TON of barbecue, and I'm pretty sure I gained a few pounds...

Anyway, today I'm showing you a polish I got in a swap recently! This is F.U.N Lacquer Reunion (H) (my first from this brand!), which came out around New Year's. It has a multichrome base that shifts blue-purple-red-orange, as well as LOTS of gold holo microglitter, so it's incredibly sparkly!

I did my best to capture some of the color shift! Look at how strong the holo is, even in artificial light!

The formula was pretty much perfect--barely any cleanup required. It was on the sheer side, so I used three coats to make sure the color showed up well.

This polish is so eye-catching and definitely a great intro to F.U.N Lacquer for me!
Reunion (H) is available here at $12.90 for 12 ml.
Happy Monday gang! We got our AC installed today, just in time (it's gonna be 90 degrees tomorrow)!

Here are my favorite manis from last month--I was really into florals again! Make sure to go visit the original artists' posts!

Sometimes you just have to appreciate a perfect stamping job, and this is one of those times. The stark color contrast really makes the pattern stand out!
Once again Lindsey knocked it out of the park with her florals! I love the somewhat abstracted style and the inclusion of the black flowers alongside the colorful ones--it's just a lot of fun to look at.
I'M BAAAAACK!! Did you miss me?? We have finally gotten (more or less) unpacked in our new apartment, I have some fancy new shelving for my office, and I'm just about ready to start doing nail stuff again! I haven't been able to paint my nails much because it's been very hot here, and when I have the ceiling fan running it messes up my topcoat. But we're getting an AC unit installed sometime soon! I've got lots of new polish and stamping plates that I can't wait to use!

In the meantime, I of course have my top lemmings from last month to show you! You can visit the original bloggers' reviews for more info!
Like I mentioned last time, we're in the process of moving to a new apartment. We're in the final phase now, so all my nail polish is at the new place (no broken bottles!). I did my nails one last time to keep my spirits up through this ordeal. This is Girly Bits Going Bananas, which is a really fun shade even though yellow is not my color!

(And yes, I had to pose with a bottle of Nailtek because the polish went off to its new home!)
I hope you get to relax and enjoy some fireworks, BBQ, or whatever floats your boat! We went into Boston for a few hours to walk around and get some burgers.

I did a quick mani to celebrate the occasion. I started with a base of KBShimmer Pimp My Pride, added stars to my middle finger with China Glaze Hanging in the Balance and a vinyl from the For the Love of Polish Box, and painted some flag stripes on my ring finger with Nailtini Bloody Mary and Sinful Colors Snow Me White. Simple!

Hi folks! Yep, I'm a little late with this one, but we're actually in the process of moving! Our new place is only about 30-40 minutes away, so we've been taking a carload of stuff over almost every day. Long story short, I meant to do this post yesterday but ended up taking a nap on the couch. :-P

Anyway, here's my favorite nail art from last month. Please go check out the original posts to give props to the artists!
I still love it when people add extra stuff to holos--I mean, yes, holos are amazing, but more stuff = more amazing! In this case you get extra blue and rainbow flashes, alongside that interesting shade of green. I don't really go for red polish, but nudge it just a bit towards purple and I must have it! This jelly is so squishy looking, I almost want to eat it (note: do not eat nail polish). Yesterday was my and Mr. ALIQUID's second anniversary--it definitely doesn't feel like two years already! We celebrated with some big steaks at a nice restaurant (OK, I ate about a third of my steak and took the rest home). And of course I wanted to do a nice mani for the occasion!

The other day I watched this tutorial about how to make stamping "decals" without actually having to let them dry and peel them up. This kind of blew my mind (I'm probably the last person to discover this technique, right?). So I decided to try it out, and it actually works! Stamping decals without bubbles and wrinkles, hooray!!

I started with a base of Zoya Song and added a coat of Out the Door. While that was drying, I used the peacock feather stamp from MoYou Pro 03 with Julep Harley and colored in the spots with Zoya Ziv and Ivanka. I let the stamp dry on the stamper for a minute or so, then stamped it directly onto the nail. I guess the topcoat grabs the stamp even after it's mostly dry!
All opinions are my own.

Happy Monday everyone!

So after being in the nail polish game for a while now, it takes a lot for a new polish to really wow me, much less an entire collection. But lately I've been absolutely drooling over everything Femme Fatale has released! That's why I had to break my no-buy for Color4Nails' latest restock and grab some of Femme Fatale's newest polishes. I've managed to get three swatched for you, go me!

All of these had a great formula and stayed exactly where you put them. The only negative was that, since they have sheer bases, I got some bald spots on my tips. But honestly I didn't care!

First up is Lantern Waste. This has a dark slate grey base with orange-to-green flakies and red-to-gold shifting shimmer!

Femme Fatale Lantern Waste. Two coats with Out the Door topcoat.

This has such a creepy vibe! Despite the strong shimmer, it wasn't brush-strokey at all.

Next is Heart's Desires. It has a dusty rose base with green-to-blue flakies and lots of copper holo microglitter.

Femme Fatale Heart's Desires. Three coats with Out the Door topcoat.

I love the way this polish takes a "grandma" color and makes it exciting again!

Last but not least, I have Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall... I was so happy to get this one because I missed the first two restocks and was terrified that I'd missed it forever. When I first saw the swatches, I wrote that it looked like a polish a unicorn would wear, and I still think that's true! It has a very pale turquoise base with pink-to-gold shifting shimmer and lots of silver holo glitter.

The shimmer was so strong in my normal lighting that it freaked out my camera, so I got some natural light shots. I love how different it looks at various angles!

There's definitely a touch of magic in that bottle, don't you think? The polish was pretty smooth after one coat of topcoat.

Well, are you as in love with these Femme Fatales as I am? If you want to grab one, keep a close eye on the Femme Fatale shop and/or their stockists, because I'm sure they've been selling out really quickly!
We had a great time this weekend celebrating my sister-in-law's wedding. She and her new husband are both amazing people, and Mr. ALIQUID and I were honored to be part of the wedding party. This was the first wedding we've been to since our own wedding two years ago, so it was nice to let someone else get all the attention while we got to enjoy the food!

Of course I did a mani for the occasion, and I made sure to grab a few pics for you! The wedding colors were navy blue and coral, and my bridesmaid's dress was navy, so I went with coral and silver for the mani.

I decided to do stamping decals over nude nails for a delicate look. I used an image from MoYou Pro 09 and stamped it with Julep Harley (the silver) onto a plastic bag. I colored in the flowers with OPI Sorry I'm Fizzy Today, and also removed parts of the image with acetone (the solid color flowers looked like fuzzy blobs, so I didn't want to keep them). Once the decals were on my nails, I added some silver dots to fill in some of the empty space.

This was one of those manis where you could see all the little bubbles and wrinkles up close, but it looked great from a normal viewing distance, so I was happy with it!

Here's a rare glimpse of Mr. ALIQUID with me--aren't the flowers beautiful?!

I was totally blown away by the job the hairstylist did on me, especially since I didn't give her much direction! I just told her "I want an updo, but not too high up," and she did the rest!

Hi everyone! I've got a fun polish on today: Dollish Polish You Know Nothing, Jon Snow. Obviously this is a Game of Thrones-themed polish! I decided to wear it because the current season is ending this weekend, but I can't do a mani for the finale because I'll be at my sister-in-law's wedding. (My mani for that is gonna be cute--I'll show you later!)

So this is a white (or slightly off-white, I can't tell) crelly with black microglitter and blue-green iridescent glitter. The iridescent stuff reminds me of the White Walkers for sure!

Dollish Polish You Know Nothing, Jon Snow. Three coats with Out the Door topcoat.

The formula was OK--not thick at all, but it dried quickly, so you have to work fast or it will clump up. I needed three coats for opacity (although I only have a mini bottle, so with a full size brush it might only need two). It was very smooth after one coat of topcoat.

This polish is in stock at the Dollish Polish shop in both sizes!
Today I decided to finally try out the squishy stamper I got last winter, as well as one of my newest MoYou stamping plates. And I was definitely impressed with both of them! Check it out...

The base polish is Cult Nails Iconic, and the stamping is done in Maybelline Bold Gold. The images come from the MoYou plate Doodles 03. I love this plate because it's entirely covered in lots of different circular patterns, so you can use any spot on the plate and get an interesting design. And my squishy stamper is sooooo much better than my old Konad one, I just can't believe it! The images came out almost perfectly!

I have to show you my other fingers too, since each one is different! (Wow, haven't posted my right hand in a while.)
This is definitely one of those manis that I can't stop staring at.
Hey gang! It's time once again to show you my favorite nail art from last month! I have lots of bright, summery manis today. As always, please go visit the original artists' posts and give them some love!

For me, the best part of this mani is the contrast between the fuzzy sponged background and the crisp stamped lines. Plus, I think we can all agree that rainbows are awesome.
Whoa, can you believe it's June already? 2015 is almost half over, you guys. Although I will be happy when the days start getting shorter again, since right now the sun wakes us up at around 5:30!

Anyway, today I've got my top lemmings from last month (visit my Pinterest board to see the rest). As always, be sure to go read the original reviews for more info!

Have you seen these weird new textured polishes that Dance Legend has come up with? I feel like they completely slipped under the radar, but I think they're super interesting! When they dry they develop this wrinkled pattern. I really want to see this in real life! This one has a lot going on, but it's still very moody and toned-down. Definitely makes me think of a haunted forest!

OK, I'll be honest, I could NOT pick a favorite from the White Witch collection. So you're going to have to go look at all of them! Femme Fatale has been hitting it out of the park this year--great combos of textures that you wouldn't expect together, and some very magical colors.
